Private Equity & VC firms (and their advisors) often make their investment decisions based solely on technical diligence done on the platform, and commercial diligence done on TAM and competitive positioning. They find it more difficult to get well informed analyses on how strong the product is in terms of functional richness, strength of roadmap, positioning to address stated future market needs, etc. (i.e., a Product Due Diligence). The latter part is critically important, especially when diversifying your investments into unfamiliar territories.
